Sketchbooks Reinforce Art Elements and Principles

Scholars in all arts classes applied art elements and principles to wonderful works of art by illustrating poetry they wrote, inspired by a variety of subjects.
Art Elements reviewed included: Line, Shape, Value, Texture, Color. Principles of Design reviewed included: Perspective, Contrast, Color Harmony (monochromatic, analogous, complementary), Scale/Proportion, Emphasis, Movement, Pattern.
Journal prompts for the sketch pad supported poetry forms scholars learned in Language Arts. Poetry forms for sketch pad pages included: Haiku, Tanaka, Couplets, Quatrain, Free Form, Diamante, Shape Poems, write a newspaper headline about life, etc.
Themes for poetry included:
--Favorite time of day
--Personal gift (sense of humor, kind, etc.)
--Family gift (patient, friendly, etc.)
--Thoughts on Freedom, Prejudice, etc.
