Portrait Collograph Prints

Collographs (also spelled, collagraph) are prints made by creating images on the surface of a printmaking "plate" by attaching various materials such as fabric and netting, and dripping and scratching into glue.

Creating a Collograph:
Step 1: Attach various items are to a cardboard "plate" to create textures and lines for the portraits.
Step 2: The entire surface is then sealed. Once the plate is ready to print, ink is applied, a damp paper is applied to the plate and carefully pressed to pick up the fine details.

Step 3: Seal all surfaces using a water-based glue sealer and dry
Step 4: Apply relief printmaking ink to the "plate"

Step 5: Place a damp paper on the "plate" and add a dry plain paper
Step 6: Carefully rub all sections as carefully as possible (the wet will show through the dry paper and you can see where to continue rubbing.
