Lesson in Harmony--Color and Design

Harmony and Unity are Principles of Design that scholars explore in depth: Harmony in design and Color Harmony. Harmony is achieved when the various parts of a work of art relate to other parts within the work. Designs have a sense of Unity when the parts relate to each other as well as to the entire work as a whole.
6th Grade students began by marking dots on the corners and on the halfway point of each side. For this assignment, students used only 5 straight lines and 2 curved lines. Spaces between the lines were then colored using colored pencils. Students chose a specific Color Harmony: Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary.
