Linoleum Cut Relief Prints

8th Grade Scholars cut images of animals native to the Sacramento River Valley into linoleum blocks. Designs are also cut into the background.
Water-based ink was applied to the linoleum blocks, paper was added and the back of the paper was rubbed to transfer the image.
Several drawing activities prepared scholars to more-accurately portray their native animal in proportion.

Scholars drew designs on linoleum blocks, applied ink to the block and then used a linoleum cutting tool to create the design.

Ink was then applied to the linoleum plate using a brayer (and water-based ink).

Paper was placed on the inked linoleum block and scholars rubbed the back of the paper for a long time. The image was transferred to the paper for a linoleum cut print.
